A George II Mahogany Armchair with Needlework
England, circa 1730

A very fine and rare George II mahogany armchair. The scrolling back with a vase shaped back splat surmounted by a carved shell top rail with end scrolls, the outswept armrests terminating in carved S-scrolls, the chair standing on four cabriole legs, the front legs with ball and claw feet and carved shells to the knees, the back legs swept outward in cabriole form.

The mahogany of superb colour and patina.

The drop-in seat upholstered with particularly fine French mid 18th century needlepoint. The central cartouche of the panel with a lady taking a flower from a vase, worked in petit point. The colours remarkably fresh and vibrant,
