A George II Mahogany Armchair with Needlework
England, circa 1730

A very fine and rare George II mahogany armchair with a drop-in seat upholstered in 18th century needlework. The scrolling back with a vase shaped back splat surmounted by a carved shell top rail with end scrolls, the outswept armrests terminating in carved S-scrolls, the chair standing on four cabriole legs, the front legs with ball and claw feet and carved shells to the knees, the back legs swept outward in cabriole form.
