A GEORGE II MAHOGANY GATELEG TABLE
Irish, circa 1740

A fine Irish George II Cuban mahogany gateleg dining table. The solid mahogany oval top with moulded edge, below a shaped frieze and a swing out leg each side to support the semi-elliptical leaves. The four cabriole legs with superb scrolling leaf carving to the hips, delicately shaped legs terminating in hairy paw feet. The table retains the dark rich colour characteristic of this type of mahogany, elegant simplicity and excellent quality. The scrolling detail to the frieze, type of carving to the leg knees and construction of this table all are indicative of  Irish origins.
