A GEORGE III SATINWOOD AND MARQUETRY COMMODE
English, circa 1780

A fine George III demi-lune satinwood and marquetry commode after a design by Hepplewhite, cross-banded overall in kingwood and inlaid with boxwood and ebonized lines; the semi-elliptical top with central half-circle inlaid on an amaranth ground with geometric laurel swags; the top inlaid with floral swags suspended from ribbon-ties inlaid partly in the cross-banding; the front with central frieze drawer inlaid with a wheat-ear, flanked by hinged drawers above a pair of swag-inlaid doors enclosing three mahogany-fronted drawers in turn flanked by doors enclosing shelves and with conforming swag inlay; on splayed bracket feet.
