A GEORGE III SERPENTINE MARQUETRY DRESSING COMMODE
English, circa 1780

A superb George III purplewood, rosewood crossbanded and marquetry serpentine kneehole commode in the manner of Pierre Langlois, with ormolu mounts and pierced quarter gallery top; quarter veneered and decorated with a central flowerhead and framed by a husk-chain wreath with bell-flowers to each corner; the central frieze drawer above a recessed cupboard door enclosing a shelf, flanked by eight short drawers and shaped angles applied with foliate mounts, on short splayed feet applied with foliate and scroll sabots.
