An exceptional and massive pair of 17th century Edo period Japanese Imari vases of wonderful quality. Each of the baluster vases is beautifully decorated with brightly painted and gilded panels of peonies and chrysanthemums on rocky outcrops amongst floral branches, with further panels of flowers to the bases and neck of the vases, the domed covers similarly decorated and with knob finials. Each vase mounted on a wonderfully sculpted and chased ormolu stand with clawed feet and acanthus decoration.
