A pair of William and Mary walnut high back chairs

A very fine pair of William and Mary walnut high back chairs, with carved cresting centred by a shell encased in scrolls and carved foliage, the splat back similarly decorated with carved shells and foliage within cartouchese, flanked by fluted pilasters and turned uprights surmounted by finials. The boldly scrolled front legs with pad feet joined by an arched cresting rail centred by a carved shell. With turned stretcher and raked turned back legs.

The design of the chairs inspired by Daniel Marot.

The seats upholstered with late 17th century verdure tapestry.
