A RARE SET OF FOUR WALNUT SIDE CHAIRS

england , circa 1735-40

A very rare set of four George II walnut side chairs. Attributed to Giles Grendey, the chairs with beautiful scroll-shaped mouled top-rails above a dished vase-shaped back splat flanked by scrolling serpentine stiles, the moulded curved seat rails with drop-in seats. Standing on superb cabriole front legs carved with shells and harebell motifs to the knees and terminating in claw and ball feet.

The underside of the seat frames stamped with the journey-man's initials.

Recently upholstered in green silk damask. The walnut of excellent colour throughout.
