An exceptionally fine and rare George I period walnut bachelor's kneehole desk and chest, with quarter veneered and herringbone crossbanded fold-over top above a long drawer and an arrangement of six small drawers around a central recessed kneehole cupboard, standing on bracket feet. Retaining the original handles.

This design combination of a kneehole combined with a bachelor’s chest is extremely rare. An example was offered at Christie’s London, Three Woods: A Passion for Walnut, Oak & Yew The John Parry Collection, 25 March 2010, lot 50. Another variation, without the recess, retaining its original identical handles and escutcheons was offered Sotheby’s New York, Tom Devenish: The Collection Highly Important English Furniture, 24 April 2008, lot 13.
