A REGENCY ROSEWOOD SOFA TABLE

A very rare Regency period rosewood sofa table of shallow proportions; the twin flap top of finely figured rosewood above two frieze drawers, standing on rare trestled and pillared turned and boxed legs, a shaped stretcher, splayed feet and brass box castors. A beautifully made table - and great colour to the rosewood.

The pillared trestles of this sofa table correspond to a table dated 1801, and bearing the name of John Broadwood & Sons of Golden Square, pianoforte maker to George III (ref: P. Thornton, 'The Furnishing and Decoration of Ham House', Furniture History, 1980, fig. 193. A very closely related table was offered Christie's London, Important English Furniture including the Mermaid House Collection, 12 November 1998, lot 114.
