A very fine Chinese Kangxi period blue and white porcelain charger. Of round form with a foliate rim, decorated in shades of underglaze blue, the centre painted with a design of a bird strutting along a leafy spring, set amomng two large blooms of flowering chrysanthemum issuing from the rockwork below, a single butterfly in flight overhead, the well lightly moulded and decorated with petal-like panels, each containing a type of flower, including prunus and peony, the wide outer rim decorated with a continuous motif of large peony blooms and scrolling tendrils, the reverse painted with four flowering branches, the base glazed and painted in underglaze blue with be-ribboned lozenge in the centre encircled by a double blue ring. Some light fritting to the edges.
