A very rare and important late 17th century Charles II Baroque frame, with a rectangular mirror plate held within a berried stiff-leaf carved slip, encompassed by pierced scrolled acanthus, fruit, flowers and pomegranates, with two opposing cherubs and scallop shell angles, the apron with a central winged cherub mask and floral swag, the cresting comprising a pair of opposing seated cherubs flanking a scrolled cartouche surmounted by a Royal crown. With remnants of the original silver leaf decoration on the gessoed finish.
