A pair of Chinese Qing Dynasty baluster vases, each of baluster form and covered in a rich cherry-red glaze that thins to a pale buff tone around the rim suffused with a network of fine crackles, painted in gilt to depict clusters of large flowering peonies borne from leafy stems, the shoulder with a band of wan fret set with quatrefoil cartouches below stiff vertical leaves. Now mounted as lamps with hand gilded turned bases.
Height of vases: 16 1/8 in (41 cm) including gilt bases, excluding electrical fitment and any lampshades.
