A magnificent 17th century Japanese gilt metal mounted lacquer trunk, of rectilinear from, the panels decorated throughout with wonderful mountainous lakeside landscapes with stylised trees, houses, pagodas, horses and exotic birds in various tones of gold. The hinged top opening to reveal a speckled gold nashiji decorated interior. The gilt metal mounts and escutcheon plate beautifully engraved. Supported on an exceptional early 18th century English acanthus carved gilt gesso stand with stylised  central shell and lions paw feet. The trunk Japanese, 17th century.
