REGENCY DINING CHAIRS
england , circa 1810 -1815
A very fine set of 10 early 19th century mahogany dining chairs, with reeded sabre legs splayed to the front and the back. The front seat rails and the back stiles similarly reeded. The backs with a fielded panelled top rail and a twisted carved cross support. The mahogany with very good colour and patina. With loose cushions inset on canework seats.
In the manner of Gillows of London and Lancaster, these chairs clearly derive from a design published in Gillows’ Estimate Sketch Books (1810). Related chairs were supplied to Wilbraham Egerton of Tatton Park, a magnificent neo-classical mansion with some of the finest Regency interiors in England, in 1811-12, and also
for the Gothic Dining Room at Carlton House designed by John Nash for the Prince Regent.
