An exceptional French late 18th century Louis XVI period ormolu mounted console desserte in the neo-classical taste. With sycamore, holly and mahogany. With a shaped marble top with moulded edge, above an ormolu mounted frieze drawer, on tapered fluted legs joined lower down with a marble inset shelf. With a mirrored back and standing on ormolu mounted toupie feet.

This console table is stylistically similar to the works of Claude-Charles Saunier in several aspects, notably in its use of gilt bronze. Almost the same bronze mounts are found on a console table stamped by Saunier, sold by Christie’s London on December 1, 2005, lot 234, as well as on a console table from the Djahanguir Riahi collection, sold by Sotheby’s Paris on 6 July 2017, lot 134 and illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Le mobilier français du XVIIIe siècle, p. 780, as well as on the console table in Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam (BK- 16670).
