A GEORGE II GILTWOOD OVERMANTEL MIRROR

A magnificent mid 18th century George II period carved giltwood overmantel mirror. Conceived in the rococo chinoiserie taste, and of impressive scale, the tripartite divided rectangular mirror plate elaborately framed in carved giltwood and gilt gesso embellished with scrolling acanthus leaves, elongated C-scrolls, stylised icicles and waterfalls, architectural columns and all surmounted with a chinoiserie figure seated on a rocky outcrop with a fishing road and fish on the line.
