Hampton Court Castle, Herefordshire dates back to 1427. The original house was built by Sir Rowland Lenthall on land that had come to him on his marriage to the King’s cousin Margaret Fitzalan, daughter of the 4th Earl of Arundel. From 1510 until 1781, it was owned by the noble Coningsby family before being inherited through marriage by Viscount Malden, son of the 4th Earl of Essex. The house was altered in the early 18th century by Colen Campbell and then restored in the early 18th century by Sir Jeffrey Wyatville. In 1810, the estate was purchased by John Arkwright, the grandson of the great industrialist Richard Arkwright. The Arkwright family owned the property for one hundred years. The house was painted at least twice by J. M. W. Turner.
